Cerebral Palsy & Epilepsy

Specialised, co-ordinated care for for complex needs

Some children face neurological conditions that affect movement, posture or the brain’s electrical activity. Cerebral palsy and epilepsy each bring their own questions and challenges — and each benefits enormously from experienced, attentive paediatric care that sees the whole child, not just the diagnosis.

Cerebral Palsy

Cerebral palsy is a group of conditions affecting movement, muscle tone and posture, caused by differences in how the developing brain formed or by an early injury to it. It varies widely — some children are mildly affected, others more significantly — and it often sits alongside other needs such as learning, feeding or communication difficulties.

As an executive member of the KZN Cerebral Palsy Association, Dr Ramsundhar brings both clinical expertise and genuine dedication to this area. She coordinates the wide team a child may need — physiotherapists, occupational and speech therapists, and other specialists — while supporting families through each stage.

Epilepsy

Epilepsy is a condition in which a child experiences recurrent seizures caused by bursts of abnormal electrical activity in the brain. Seizures can take many forms, from brief moments of “absence” to more obvious convulsions, and witnessing one can be frightening for any parent.

Dr Ramsundhar assesses, diagnoses and manages epilepsy with an evidence-based approach, helping to identify the type of seizures, guide appropriate treatment, and support your child’s development and wellbeing alongside it. Ongoing follow-up ensures management stays right for your growing child.

“Complex needs deserve more time, not less. My role is to hold the whole picture together so families don’t have to carry it alone.”
