Trusted, attentive care through every stage of childhood
Alongside her specialist neurodevelopmental work, Dr Ramsundhar provides comprehensive general paediatric care for families across Durban and KwaZulu-Natal — the everyday medicine that keeps children healthy, growing well and thriving. From the reassurance of routine check-ups to the calm management of childhood illness and long-term conditions, she offers the kind of attentive, knowledgeable care every parent hopes to find.
Whether your child is unwell, due for a developmental check, or living with an ongoing condition, you will be met with patience, expertise and a genuine interest in your child as a whole person.
Preventive and Well-Child Care
Some of the most valuable visits to a paediatrician happen when nothing is wrong. Well-child care is about watching your child grow, catching concerns early, and giving you confidence that development is on track.
- Growth and development monitoring — height, weight, head circumference and milestones tracked over time
- Developmental screening — speech, motor, social and cognitive development, so concerns are picked up early when support works best
- Nutrition and feeding guidance — practical advice on feeding and weaning at every age
- School readiness assessments and placement guidance
Please note: Dr Ramsundhar does not provide immunisations.
Acute Illness Management
Few things are more worrying than a sick child. Dr Ramsundhar assesses unwell children thoroughly, identifies the cause, starts effective treatment, and explains clearly what to watch for at home. Her regular time on the paediatric ward at St Augustine’s means your child is in capable, confident hands.
- Upper and lower respiratory tract infections — tonsillitis, ear infections, bronchiolitis, croup and pneumonia
- Gastroenteritis and dehydration
- Urinary tract infections
- Common childhood viral illnesses such as chickenpox and hand-foot-and-mouth disease
- Epilepsy and seizure-related concerns
- Fevers of unknown origin
- Skin conditions including rashes, impetigo and eczema flare-ups
- Minor injuries and wound assessment
Chronic & Ongoing Conditions
When a child has a long-term condition, what matters most is consistent care from someone who knows them well. Dr Ramsundhar builds an individualised plan, reviews it regularly, and adjusts it as your child grows — keeping the condition firmly in the background of a happy childhood.
- Asthma — diagnosis, spirometry referral where needed, and long-term management
- Allergies and atopic disease — assessment, with referral for skin-prick testing where appropriate
- Eczema and atopic dermatitis
- Reflux and feeding difficulties in infants
- Constipation and functional gut issues
- ADHD — assessment and management, often co-managed with psychologists
- Failure to thrive and growth concerns
- Anaemia and nutritional deficiencies
Multidisciplinary Referrals & Coordination
When a child needs several professionals, families can quickly feel lost between appointments and waiting rooms. Dr Ramsundhar acts as the central point of coordination — selecting the right specialists, making the referrals, and keeping the picture joined up so nothing falls through the cracks.
- Speech therapists, occupational therapists and physiotherapists
- Dietitians and lactation consultants
- Educational and clinical psychologists

FAQS

This depends on their age and needs — younger children benefit from more frequent checks as they grow rapidly. Dr Ramsundhar will recommend a schedule suited to your child.
No, immunisations are not offered at this practice. Your clinic or GP can provide these, and Dr Ramsundhar is happy to advise on your child’s overall health and development.
Fever is often a normal response to infection, but very high temperatures, fever in young infants, or fever with drowsiness, breathing difficulty or a rash need prompt attention. When in doubt, seek advice.
Through an individualised plan that may include daily preventer medication, reliever medication for symptoms, and clear guidance on triggers. With good management, most children with asthma live active, full lives.
Not always — many childhood illnesses are viral and do not respond to antibiotics. Dr Ramsundhar prescribes based on careful, evidence-based assessment, using antibiotics only when they will genuinely help.
